Life on Turtle Mountain Farm

Our adventures with horses, cats, dogs, and restoring a farm.

If you read my last post, you know that we have had some difficulty integrating our new little donkey, Dickens, with the rest of our herd. He was extremely aggressive towards our miniature horse and just behaved generally like a jackass (no pun intended, of course). Despite a rocky start, Dickens has now been turned out several times with our mare herd (including the mini) with considerably less drama. For now, we only put them all together in a small, easily-supervised paddock for short periods of time but he’ll soon be turned out full-time with two larger mares.

Dickens does wear his halter and a catch-rope while he’s out with the girls…again, he’s always well-supervised. I would never recommend leaving this equipment on any horse/pony/donkey.
